Astraware Word Games for iOS

Astraware, a privately held limited company registered in England and Wales, have created games for handheld devices for over 9 years. This makes them one of the oldest handheld software companies in the mobile business. They have a proven track record of writing high quality software that runs and plays well on various handhelds including Palm OS, Blackberry, Windows mobile, Android and Apple's iOS devices.

Astraware has one of the most stringent quality assurance processes in the handheld software industry, meaning that every new or updated product available on this site has been tested on a range of smartphone devices to check that they run correctly.

Astraware was founded in time when trial or demo versions of mobile software was the norm, but today's mobile app stores make this more difficult to practice. Most new developer use the app store and cash paying customers to test their products after buying them. Astraware is different, they so maintain a team of external volunteer beta testers, who are as passionate about their games as they are, and they try out new software 'in the field' on their handhelds alongside the other real-life software and data they keep.

In my Palm OS and WebOS days, Astraware's games were staple items on my devices. I still have a couple of these devices around and the kids still pull them out to play games - many of which are Astraware titles.

As of 2nd December 2011, Astraware have stopped selling Palm OS, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and Symbian S60 games on their website. We will provide support for these platforms for a limited time. For more information, please read this article.

I am currently enjoying Astraware's Word Games app.

Love word games? Then look no further - get Astraware Word Games - 5 different brain-teasing word games in 1 pack!

Astraware Word Games includes a new puzzle every day of each game type - Shuffle, Wordsearch, Hexxed, Gridlock, and Spellmaster! Each day download our featured daily puzzle for each of the mini-games, complete them and submit your score to see how you compare against players worldwide! Aim for the most points to top the global leaderboards.

The 5 games are:

Shuffle - Make as many words as you can with the letters provided including the 5, 6 or 7 letter target word to unlock the next level. The more words you get, the bigger your score. Use the Shuffle button to mix the letters up and help yourself spot more words!

Hexxed - Make words by tracing your finger through the tiles to make a chain within the hexagonal grid! Two play modes - limited tiles or limited time. Create long, interesting or unusual words to keep your word power score up and earn more tiles or time!

Wordsearch - Find all the listed words within the grid of letters, horizontally vertically, or diagonally! Play using the standard dictionary, or choose from over 8 special lists of themed words!

Gridlock - Make words by tracing your fingers through the letters to make a chain. As you make words this lights up the tiles. Light up the whole grid to level up! Use special tiles to boost your word power, score bonus points and more.

Spellmaster - Challenge your spelling skills against words of increasing difficulty. Choose the correct spelling from a choice of 4 words, 3 of which are misspelled!

While the graphics are not spectacular (how pretty can you make words anyway?), they are good enough.  This game is all about finding the words to increase your score.

The game is available for the iPhone and iPad.  Clicking the links will launch the Appstore for you.
