Why get an iPad if you have an iPhone?
I personally thought it would be redundant to have both the iPad and the iPhone, so I purchased an Android phone. I love to learn about different Operating Systems so That was a deciding factor as well.
For the average person, it may make more sense to buy both the iPad and iPhone because they have the same OS and some of the apps are universal meaning if you buy it for the iPhone it will work on the iPad.
In contrast, the apps that I bought on the Android and even the WebOS phone are no longer usable once I retire those devices.
Having your app dollars stretch longer and across multiple devices is huge.
The good thing about Smartphones today, is that they continue to have life after their initial usage. If you close a wireless account on the iPhone, Palm Pre or Android phone, the phone still makes a great iPod, music or video streaming device, web browsers or email client.
